Michiel Borstlap

Voor Michiel Borstlap is muziek grenzeloos. Zowel in de letterlijke betekenis - zo speelde hij met Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Pat Matheny en Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts - als in figuurlijk opzicht. Borstlap weigert - hij kan kennelijk niet anders - binnen de streng afgebakende grenzen van de jazz te blijven. Hij gaat net zo makkelijk de dialoog aan met zangers als Gino Vannelli en Trijntje Oosterhuis als met drummer Han Bennink. En voor een complete opera (Opera Ibn Sina) draait hij zijn hand niet om. Ook zijn nieuwste project, waaraan het programma van vanavond gewijd is, is grenzeloos. Borstlap: ‘El Dorado is a new step into my musical experience. Todays technology is such a source of inspiration, and we truly were inspired for this project. Nothing was forbidden, all could be excepted, as long as magic was captured. [...] How do we call this music? Well, search within Funk, Dance, Jazz, an Operasinger, some Urban... you might find what you’ll seek.’
